Water on Surfaces: Insights from First Principles
Sheng Meng
Water is ubiquitous in nature and ordinary to us. But water is also unique and mysterious, with numerous unusual properties lacking scientific interpretation. Water on surfaces and interfaces is central to a broad class of phenomena in physics, chemistry and biology. It also offers a model system to study water in general. This book studies water, in particular its various forms of nanostructures and overlayers on solid surfaces, using first-principles structure calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. The results are important for the understanding of water at surfaces. They are also meaningful to confined and interface water in biological systems.
