Can 1st Year Students Interact? Technology As Lever: a South African Case Study
Karen Thomas
Universities worldwide are facing an unpresedented increase in enrolment, however, with the increase in numbers, teachers, lecturers and students are finding it more difficult to interact - with one another and with the content. The type of student is also changing dramatically. Digital natives are using technology in almost every sphere of their lives - why then not also in their education? Can technology not assist the teacher to foster good interaction with students? This research had been done in an attempt to address the challenges of improving the learning experiences of Economics first-year students in ever-increasing class sizes, by facilitating interaction via the use of e- learning. This book is useful for every educator who has struggled with large enrolment numbers and who would like to include principles of good pedagogy in their classrooms - amongst others interaction, discussion, application of theoretical knowledge - whilst keeping the net-generaion happy.
