The African continent continues to face a number of development challenges despite its vast resources and it remains the poorest region in the world. The last decade experienced some changes with a a turning point in 2001. The change came from the the African Union, with the adoption of the New Partnership for Africa?s Development (NEPAD) as a socio-economic programme of the African Union, representing a historic commitment by African leaders to accelerate integration and development in the Continent.
