Moxifloxacin is a latest fourth generation fluoroquinolone having 8 - methoxy - quinolone ring and bulky C7 side chain with broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, anaerobes and atypical organisms such as Mycoplasma spp. and Chlamydia spp. Resistance to microorganisms is less with moxifloxacin because it is bactericidal, and also have low MIC values, extended spectrum activity, less chances of toxicity and adverse drug reaction, moxifloxacin is very promising antibiotics for its use in human and veterinary medicine.
