This work focuses on the Dominican philosophy of education as illustrated by the historical developments of St John?s High School in Emerald Hill (Harare). Attention is made to the contribution the school is making to Zimbabwean education. Contribution of interest to this research include the students output, the values the school imparts and the quality of examination results. The research will provide useful insights into, not only the Dominican philosophy of education and the institutional development of St John?s High School, but also its contribution to the wider community. Research findings can be generalized only to other Dominican Schools on the basis of their common philosophy. Nonetheless, the school location, age of pupils, specific needs of children and whether or not the school is boarding, may explain to some degree the great diversity in Dominican schools. The aim of this work is to establish: 1. The main principle of Dominican education with special reference to St John?s High School. 2. The main achievements of the Dominican education at St John?s High School. 3. The contributions of St John?s High School to Zimbabwean education and community.
