This work takes a historical account of climatological aspects of droughts over Maharashtra. All drought studies related to Maharashtra droughts are reviewed and put with different insight depicting exact meteorological and physical aspects of droughts. This is an attempt to study droughts holistically. In this book attempts have been made to provide exact shades of meaning of various terms related to drought and monsoon studies. A brief narration in development of famine historiography and different approaches related to it are included in this book. With help of original government reports, nature and impact of all major and minor post independence droughts of Maharashtra are briefly narrated. 1970-73 drought of Maharashtra and food crisis arose in wake of it are discussed in more detail. Progress in the monsoon and drought studies are reviewed. Importance of monsoon highlighted with its historical development. Unique measures to tackle the droughts and endeavors to make region drought proof are suggested in the epilogue. Epilogue of this book is therefore,authors intense, free and logical contemplation in that direction.
