Study of Arsenic-resistant Yeast: Isolated from Industrial Wastewaters of Lahore
Tayyaba Lali
Signaling the significant amount of increasing rates of environmental reservoir pollution, heavy metals are considered the most obnoxious of all. Of these we carried out a study on bioremediation trends and patterns of eukaryotic systems and isolated Arsenic-Resistant Yeast species from Lahore Canal Drain and Effluents from Kasur Tanneries, Raiwind and Kala Shah Kaku. The isolates were tested for the arsenic resistance, morphological changes and optimal growth parameters under the arsenic stress. The isolates were also checked for cross-metal resistance checks, evaluated by 18S rRNA verification and identified by homology search tools. This study, therefore, shall help in resolving arsenic-related bioremediation problems as the isolates bioaccumulate arsenic and also give an insight into how the eukaryotes respond to arsenic stresses in their vicinity.
