Appraisal of Street Furniture in Lokoja, Nigeria Olorunfemi Samuel Oluwaseyi

The important of street furniture in urban area cannot be over emphasized. However, this study was conducted to evaluate street furniture and road safety in Lokoja. Based on the understanding and appreciation of the problem the study has come up with suggestions that could ratify the identified problems. The research was conducted using questionnaires and field observation to collect the required data for the purpose of fulfilling the aim and objectives of the study. 119 questionnaires was administered in the study area and the questionnaires were structure and administered at the locations/corridors of the study in the study area, in which 40 questionnaires were administered to the pedestrians, 44 questionnaires were administered to the motorists and 35 questionnaires were administered to the cyclists. The result revealed that the identified street furniture in the study area were not effective. The result recommended that functional traffic light should be provided at various junctions within the study area and general public should be oriented on the uses and importance of street furniture.
