Sheath blight of rice is a limiting factor for rice production all over the world. Modern management practices for this disease depend on the use of chemicals that raise environmental and food concern. Bacterial antagonists have emerged as an effective most promising means for sheath blight management. Reports are on hand indicating effectiveness of Pseudomonas fluorescens against sheath blight pathogen, under in vitro conditions. However,such organism fails to control the pathogen in the field,in most of the cases due to various reasons. Itis because of the fact that biological control recommendation may hold promise under certain set of conditions only. Time,rate,mode of application and formulations of bioagent, pathogen inoculum level,plant growth stages,soil factors etc.play important role in biocontrol strategy. This book attempts to provide concise,critical,synthetic aspects of the role of various factors that may contribute to the effectiveness of bacterial bioagent(s) to control sheath blight. The book is intended to serve for the students, teachers,researchers, technologists,extension workers,disease scouts and others interesting in biological control of plant diseases.
