Research on herbal medicine has of late attracted global attention. Plants are an important source of lead compounds for the synthesis of novel pharmaceutical products. Embelin, a bioactive component of Embelia schimperi plant has been found to have antimicrobial activity against several disease causing microorganisms. The quest for enhanced bioactivity has led to isolation and derivatization of embelin. This book provides an insight into the effects of embelin's chemical derivatization on antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans.
