Comparative Pharmacokinetics of Ofloxacin and Ciprofloxacin in Calves Neeraj Shrivastava

Studies on the comparative pharmacokinetics of Ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin were conducted following a single intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous administration at the dose rate of 5mg/kg body weight in two groups of cow calves. Concentration of Ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin were determined by the spectofluorometric assay method. The standard curve was linear in the Ofloxacin concentration range of 0.31 to 10 mcg/ml. For ciprofloxacin standard curve was obtained in the concentration range of 0.31 to 5 mcg/ml. The lowest detection limit of the assay method for both the drugs were 0.31 mcg/ml. Based on the studies it was evident that these drugs can be given by any of the above routes. The dose rate of Ofloxacin may be 2.5 and 5 mg/kg body weight while the dose of Ciprofloxacin may be 3-5 mg/kg body weight.
