Impulse Toward Peace: a Literary and Ethical Reading of the Peace Visions in Isaiah 1-4
Kaila Coon
Using a final-form poetics model, Kaila works through the text of Isaiah 1-4 to illuminate the ethical impetus toward peace woven into the passage. The study begins with a systematic exegesis of the peace passages in Isaiah 2 and 4, touching on all the major issues for interpretation. It then moves to a discussion of the prophetic voice before conducting a literary reading on the first four chapters of Isaiah to determine how their literary structure moves the reader toward practical nonviolence in the present. The book concludes by providing a few brief suggestions for further study and for the application of these non-violent texts to contemporary Christianity.
