Biomaterial is any material, natural or manmade that comprises whole or a part of a living structure or a biomedical device which performs, augments or replaces device which performs a function that has been lost through disease or injury. Biomaterials play an important role in craniomaxillary surgery. The functionality and compatibility of implanted device depends on effects of physiologic environment on the properties of the implant and on the local and systemic histocompatibility of implanted biomaterial.
