These castles have been fundamental points of reference throughout the centuries in the history of this city and were active parts of every Galwegian?s life in many different ways. While not just detailing each castle?s structure, this book also tells of the stories that make each of these castles part of the local history and worthy of preservation. Hopefully, the information contained within can be of assistance to those interested in promoting these structures for the enjoyment of local people and visitors alike. Unfortunately, the majority of these buildings are not properly preserved and are not accessible, for different reasons, to the public. The author analyses the different causes of neglect and lack of improvement, and proposes possible ways to make these structures and their history more available to the public.
