Ranitidine Hydrochloride, an Histamine 2 receptor antagonist, can be absorbed in upper part of GIT including stomach and proximal intestine. Moreover, when it comes in contact with colonic media, degradation starts. Low density floating tablets of Ranitidine Hydrochloride were prepared using polyethylene oxide (POLYOX WSR N 60 K) as a polymer and L-Menthol as a sublimating material. Sublimation technique, generally used for mouth dissolving tablet, was used to make porous tablet that have minimal lag time just within a fraction of time and floated for more than 24 h. Moreover, tablet floating lag time was independent of pH of media, which was limitation for conventional floating tablets. Stability data proved that dosage form was also stable for longer period.
