Ethnomedicine is a sub discipline of Medical Anthropology. It is a study of beliefs and practices concerning illness in different human populations. Precisely,dealing with those practices and knowledge systems, which are not derived from the conceptual framework of modern medicine. It observes and describes hygienic, preventive and healing practices of Indigenous society. A greater emphasis today is the study of socio- cultural matrix with in which the health practices takes place. The knowledge of indigenous practices relating to diagnosis and treatment of illness is considered to be very significant today. This book basically deals with definition,meaning,review and main objective of the subject in introductory chapter. Subsequent chapters deals with ethnographic profile of Gonds, a tribe which is lived in Adilabad district of Telangana state, India.,perceptions and practices of illnesses, the religious healing,types of healing,changes in ethnomedical practices and illness behaviour.
