Leadership and Job Satisfaction in Higher Education Mensah Mary

Effective leadership is said to be key to successful organizations, effective schools and quality education. Due studies abound on leadership in education at various levels, most of which are conceptual, thus calling for some contextual analysis. This studies sought to meet that need by drawing on quantitative techniques to examine leadership styles of Polytechnic Rectors and how they impact teacher job satisfaction. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Enter Method Regression Analysis were used to test for significance of the correlation and regression coefficients. Findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between teacher perceptions of the leadership styles of Rectors and job satisfaction at an alpha level of 0.01. Leadership styles predicted 31% of variations in intrinsic job satisfaction and 23% of variations in extrinsic job satisfaction. In the view of the teachers, the Rectors were more concerned about delivery on task and performance compared to the interpersonal aspects of their roles.
