Cultural Sociology in India: Status of Cultural Sociology in India Ehsan Shayegan

India having rich and diverse cultural models can be an appropriate context to host rich studies by following the perspective of cultural sociology. Hence this research on the basis of primary and secondary data examines the status of cultural sociology in India. It refers to the works of Indian scholars and asks some key informants (Indian sociologists and anthropologists) about the status of cultural sociology in India. It further sees if there are academically organized efforts and demands for a new cultural oriented sociology in Indian universities and colleges. This research assumes that India Despite of its rich, globally famous and diverse culture,still lags behind in promoting theoretical frames to support academically organized efforts in cultural sociology.
