The World of Chetan Bhagat: with Special Reference to Five Point Someone and One Night at the Call Center
Chetan Trivedi
The book comprises the study the reflection of revolutionary nature of youth and the manifestation of modern society as are depicted in Chetan Bhagat?s Five Point someone and One Night at the Call Center. The chief element that permeates throughout the novels is conflict - an age old element exploited by the most of the writers. How the Youth is over burdened with expectations and dreams? How the Youth is sandwiched between their own freewill and so called (according to Youth) experienced and worldly wise people? The expectations lead toward disillusionment. It is believed that all have freedom of expression, but most often our minds are shackled or restricted by so called dogmas and principles. The conflict in this story arises from the way characters are expected to view the world. Here what I mean by the term disillusion is what Freud says, in The Future of an Illusion, ?It is characteristic of the disillusion that it derives from people?s wishes.... It needs not necessarily be false, that is to say, unrealistic or incompatible with reality.?
