Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has revolutionized the treatment of cholelithiasis. However, substantial portion of patients in whom laparoscopic cholecystectomy cannot be successfully performed are converted to open. There is a need to identify factors that predict the need to convert as it would provide short-term benefits in terms of patient education and post operative expectations.
