The book comprehensively presents the experience of using Reed bed systems for sludge treatment and dewatering in many places in Europe and USA. It discusses the results obtained from construction and operation of a three-years Reed bed in sludge treatment and dewatering in Palestine. Aerobic and anaerobic sludge treatment are discussed focusing on advantages and disadvantages of such systems. The suitability of the accumulated sludge in Reed bed systems for agricultural purposes is presented concentrating on cost analysis of construction and operation. Formulas and equations to design Reed bed systems are developed and a corresponding operational management process is proposed.
