Effect on Esol Programs' in High School Graduation and College Plans: English for Speakers of Other Language Programs' Effect on High School Graduation and College Plans Dr. Gifty Chung

The quantitative study analyzed the effect of English Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) programs on graduation rates and proportion of college plans of limited-English proficient ESOL students and non-ESOL students in the state of Florida. The data revealed a significant difference between ESOL and non-ESOL students regarding graduation rates. The study found a significant difference between ESOL students and non-ESOL students regarding college plans. In addition, the study determined a significant difference between ESOL and non-ESOL students regarding graduating from high school and planning to attend college. Although ESOL students indicated they had college plans, and they had graduated and planned to attend college at a higher rate than non-ESOL students, the study still suggested a need for more effective ESOL programs.
