Deity Doctor looks at the Occult Health Practices in the Kumaon Hills region of the Himalayas. This work studies the relevance of these practices in the lives of the people. The practices that have been studied have also evolved in the course of the study as being an important part of the people's lives not only from the medical perspective but also from the social perspective. The book looks at the various practices and the practitioners, through their experiences of and their perceptions. This study reveals the close connection between culture and the health seeking behavior of people and at the closure recommends pluralistic medical system for the region as that is the culture people have been following for hundreds of years and still have enormous faith in it.
