Olive is a popular oil crop of the Mediterranean countries, like Greece and Italy. The tree bears fruits which contain edible oil. Olive oil is well known cooking oil. It has been used since prehistoric time. It is also documented in ancient Greek and Roman scripts , and in Holy books, "Quran" and "Bible". Olive branch is still a symbol of peace and prosperity. In Pakistan most oilseed crops cannot compete with the common cereal and cash crops for economic reason. Hence there is a little scope of the oilseed crops to replace the other more profitable crops. In view of this situation, the government is now introducing olive to be grown on cultivable waste land. (Qresh. Z, 1999-2000).
