The objective of the study is to lay special emphasis on occupational stress in the working of security forces and local police: the custodians of internal security, as its potential negative implications affect performance in more direct and critical ways as compared to stress in many other occupations. Security personnel operating under severe and gruelling stress may well be at greater risk of error, accidents and over-reaction that can compromise their performance, jeopardize public safety and post a significant liability costs to the organization. The current study is a sincere attempt to explain the standard occupational stress factors linked to the arduous operations of the security forces and police with supporting situational examples derived from the public domain.
