The readymade garment (RMG) industry is one of the leading industries which have transformed the country from an agricultural based economy into an export-oriented economy and it has been a leading driver of the globalisation of the economy. Despite significant growth and development, the RMG industry has been facing some problems. High labour turnover is one of them, as it severely affects business performance, the workers themselves, and decreases labour productivity. The high labour turnover and recent labour unrest are the consequences of longstanding violation of financial, social, and attitudinal factors, including low wages, forced labour, long working hours, job insecurity, and arrears in payment.
