The Worlds High Priest: Religion and Politics in the Work of George Herbert
Fahimeh Naseri
This book is the result of Fahimeh's long- standing interest in Herbert's poetry. She started with comparing his poetry with the poetry of the Persian poet Rumi and continued by tracing the grandeur of man in all his works. This turned out to be a very rewarding research which presented Herbert as a poet-priest and political commentator. Augustine's philosophy played a crucial role both in shaping the mystical experience of the speaker in The Temple, and the brave perfomance of the orator at Cambridge. Thus, this book contributes significantly to our fresh understanding of Herbert and his poetry.
