Rural Household Endowment and Poverty: the Case of Ila, Nigeria Ezekiel Ayinde Alani

This study investigates the relationship between household endowment and poverty level amidst the people of Ila local Government area of Osun State. Data were collected from 81 respondents from five randomly selected wards out of eleven wards of the local government using structured questionnaires that captured social-economic characteristics and various endowments available to households. Frequency distributions and percentages were used to describe the data. Endowment index was generated from the household endowments of the respondents and the index was used to categorize respondents into various categories. Weighted Least Squared (WLS) analysis was used to test the hypothesis. The WLS shows that formal education, Informal education, marital status and family size are significant at 1% level. This study recommends that more resources should be directed towards the educational sector to get more people educated since education has a positive effect on the standard of living of the people. Also individuals are encouraged to maintain a small family size
