This book is written and edited by Dr. VASUDEO ZAMBARE. It provides a comprehensive detail of plant bioactive compounds used daily as mild beverages including tea (Camellia sinensis), Coffee (Caffea Arabica), Ginger (Zingiber officinalis), and lemongrass (Cymbapogon flexuosus). The role of antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of plant extract were supported by authors' own experimental data. The book is divided into 3 chapters that provide basic information about tea, coffee, ginger and lemongrass plants and their bioactivities; methodologies for extraction and measurement of polyphenols, DPPH free radical scavenging and inhibition of lipid peroxidation; experimental results of antioxidant and antimicrobial activities supported by 21 illustrations. 169 suggested readings including references that are used in this work are also provided at the end of the book. It also suggests the daily use of mild beveraging agent by common man had a promising antibacterial activity against different food borne pathogens which caused diarrhea and dysentery. The book is one of the initiatives for promoting Indian researchers, higher education, R&D and use of natural product as valuable resource.
