Soumen Bhattacharjee did his masters in Zoology from Calcutta University and doctoral thesis in Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Calcutta, under Jadavpur University, India. His experience with human polyomaviruses continued from 1996. His doctoral work involved genotyping and promoter-enhancer analysis of endemic BK polyomavirus amplified directly from human patient body fluids in eastern India. He has published in reputed journals from all over the world. Presently he is involved in detection and genomic characterization of BKV, JCV, KIPyV, WUPyV and MCPyV in the northern part of West Bengal, India.
