This thesis examines of the effects of monetary policy surprises, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA)?s open market operations (OMOs), and other key macroeconomic news and announcements, on Australian interest rate, foreign exchange rate and SPI stock index futures markets. The thesis focuses on examination of the relationship between the central bank?s monetary policy releases, policy actions, market operations and financial market reactions in terms of both asset prices and volatility.
