Daylighting Concepts for University Libraries: Daylighting Concepts for University Libraries and Their Influences on Users' Satisfaction

There has been an extensive amount of research on daylight, but very few on libraries, and next to none on university libraries. Likewise, the relationship of 4 environmental processes, namely, privacy, personal space, territorialty and crowding with daylight affecting preference and satisfaction has not been extensively investigated. Thus, the purpose of this prospective study is to investigate this elaborate relationship. It examines users? reactions to daylight within library spaces and aims to discuss the effects of daylighting design especially in user-centered university libraries. University libraries were chosen, as they are complex spaces that have various social uses compared to public ones, that is, there are added functions, such as, meeting, studying together, sleeping, passing time between classes, in addition to reading, research, studying, meeting for faculty and students. In addition, these spaces focus on resource-based learning and information literacy development and thus, they have a significant position in the education of university students.
