Bangladesh is a riverine country. A large number of rivers are present here. Among these, Karatoya river is the most ancient and plays a vital role in the development of livelihood status of local fishermen. At present, because of increasing the use of different types of destructive fishing gear, fish diversity decreases gradually as a result of over-exploitation. For this, study on fishing gear and diversity of fishes of this river is very important and according to the spirit of the age.
