Cognitive enhancement may be defined as the amplification or extension of core capacities of the mind through improvement or augmentation of internal or external information processing systems. The hippocampus is a critical integrative center involved in the regulation of exploratory activities and for incorporating spatial information. The cornu ammonis (CA) region, particularly the CA3 subregion of the hippocampus, is the key structure of the brain involved in learning and memory. All the treatment groups meet the major criteria for cognition enhancing activity, but the combination treatment groups i.e Donepezil + Memantine & Donepezil +Citalopram found more effective in all exteroceptive as well as interoceptive behaviuoral model. An approved treatment in mild to moderate Alzheimer?s disease is monotherapy of AchE inhibitors & for moderate disease combination of AchE inhibitors with NMDA antagonists. Now, the combination of SSRI?s with AchE inhibitors will be alternative for the treatment of Alzheimer?s disease by delaying progression of disease.
