Cattle Breeds and Reproductive Characteristics: Effects of Genotype and Season on Blood Chemistry, Parasitic Load and Sperm Reserves of Some Nigerian Bull Cattle
Addass Philip
The commonest Nigerian breeds of bull cattle were assessed on reproductive characteristics as affected by breed, age and season. It was discovered that Rahaji (RJ) bulls had upper hand followed by Bunaji (BJ). Sokoto Gudali (SG) while Adamawa Gudali (AG) had list performance. Age group?4years had better performance followed by age group 3?2 -4years. Early dry season (October to December) was discovered to favour most of the reproductive indices studied followed by late raining season (July ? September). Reproductive programmes should therefore, be planned towards late raining season to dry season and bulls of 3?2 -4years ? 4years of age be used for maximum outputs.
