Following Texas? successful war of independence against Mexico, relations between the new republic?s longstanding residents and their newly-arrived neighbors were enormously complex as both groups tried to work out the nature of their new country. Tejanos and Anglos explores some of the factors in their relationship, including external pressures and internal restiveness, as the Republic of Texas struggled to define itself and maintain its freedom. Included in the book are individual accounts, outlines of significant historical events that illuminate the evolution of the relationship between Texas? major communities, and attention to Mexican attitudes and actions toward its former state in the postwar period, all with reference to periodicals of the time. The text also covers antecedents to the Texas revolt, and analysis of the four principle factors in the decline in relations between Texas? Tejano and Anglo communities after the conflict.
