In an uncertain economic climate the figure of the artist is an important model for innovative and creative advancement. Through art we are encouraged to question our expectations, impressions and assumptions about art, everyday objects and life itself. Contemporary artists have the potential to hold a magnifying glass to the ?gaps? in our community, highlighting social, economic and cultural discrepancies, and in some cases, offer creative alternative solutions. Is it realistic for artists to think that they can help encourage or implement social change?. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This work provides an analysis of some distinctly different culturally creative projects, which involve specific sections of society in the creative process. It explores how artists inventively create artworks or experiences that encourage engagement and dialogue that can subsequently challenge our current ways of thinking. This study sheds light on creative exchange and its social impact. It should be particularly useful to professionals and students interested in art?s autonomy and its potential.
