Free and compulsory education to all children up to the age of 14 is constitutional commitment in India. Universalisation of education in India is viewed in terms of universal access, universal enrollment, universal retention and universal quality of education, all of which plays a crucial role in achieving the goal of universalisation of elementary education. Education For all is the slogan of the day. India is making effort to achieve this. To make India strong we need young Indians to be strong with the power of knowledge. The power of knowledge can be achieved only through education. India had made concerted efforts towards achieving the goal of ?education for all? by the year 2000 A. D. But it has not been fulfilled.. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a instrumental project to achieve this long cherished goal of universalisation of elementary education.
