Man Between Health and Sickness: an Approach to Medical Sociology
Mouhcine El-hajjami
Medical Sociology is a new-established field of teaching, and research within the discipline of Sociology. The book in hand provides a broad introduction into the basic concerns of medical sociology examining thoroughly the many ways whereby one?s health becomes a socio-cultural construct. Known also as the Sociology of Health and Sickness, medical sociology investigates, in detail, the other facet of disease production, and distribution as a consequence of certain irrational cultural practices, poor working and living conditions and unhealthy environment. Besides, the author?s main intention from writing this book is to back up the theoretical point medical sociologists have agreed on, and which puts stress on the fact that illness can never be only a result of biological interventions, but also the impact of socio-cultural variations may have a hand in producing a bad health status within a group community.
