A Study on Age Patterns of Fertility in India: Fertility Transition in India Pallavi Gupta

This study is an effort to depict the scenario of age patterns of fertility in major states and districts in India with the view that a better understanding of the fertility transition taking place at national level might be possible by a detailed study of the fertility transition taking place at sub-national or below state level. This study begins with the discussions on levels and trends of fertility at national and state level through the combination of statistical tools viz. Deciles & Quartiles and analytical tools viz. parameters of Quadratic Spline model. Due to paucity of data at sub-national or below state level, model fertility tables are derived to obtain the age specific fertility rates for districts in India and discussed comprehensively using aforementioned statistical and analytical tools.
