The root canal system has many variations in anatomy such as irregularly shaped canals, lateral and accessory canals, and a variety of fins which lead to difficulty in preparing the canals to form conducive to complete obturation with filling materials whenever a need for endodontic therapy arises. The final goal of endodontic treatment is to fill the entire root canal system and all its complex anatomic pathways completely and closely with non irritating hermetic sealing agents. The achievement of a ?Hermetic seal? is often cited as the major goal of root canal treatment. As guttapercha is a benchmark for root canal obturation an attempt has been made in the form of a book to review the current dental literature of guttapercha and to discuss its forms, properties, its advantages along with its different techniques used for obturation of guttapercha.
