Cowpea (Vigna unquiculata L .) belongs to the family leguminoceae and having chromosome number 2n=22 and originated form Central Africa. Cowpea is a popular vegetable grown throughout the world. It is grown for green pods, dry seeds and fodder. The pods are rich source of protein,vitamin and minerals. There is worldwide consensus that sole dependence on chemical input based agriculture is not suitable in long run and only integrated plant nutrient system involving a combination of inorganic fertilizers, organic manures and bio-fertilizers are essential to sustain crop production, preserve soil health and biodiversity. Integrated effort are required to boost up the yield as well as productivity of cowpea.
