The year 2012 is the centenary year of library and information science education in India. It has seen many changes, transitions, contracts and contradictions. The present scenario of information and communication technologies clubbed with the ever changing information and knowledge perspectives indicate the pressing need to educate and train the future library and information manpower towards sustainable professional competencies.
