This collection of articles deals with eschatological and ecclesiological aspects in the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke. The result: Christians live in eschatological salvation, achieved in death by the individual. Contrary to individual Christians, the authors of the New Testament leave the date of parousia open. The Christian baptism ties in with the baptism of John, but at the same time differs from it: as ablution and spiritual baptism it is a ritual of initiation, creating community between Christ and the baptized. Six contributions deal with 1 Peter, its theocentricity, baptism and its effect on Christian life, the nature and missionary dimension of the congregation, Christian life in foreign places as sign of eschatological existence, confidence in the future salvation of all mankind and actual experience of salvation, and with Christ's suffering, taken as a signum of his whole life, including its soteriological consequences.
