The book is a piece of fiction in which Kamali, a girl from a village of India, is discriminated against her brother. She is not given education but she exhibits a kind of courage that many cannot even imagine or dare to think of. The story chronicles her life as she is raised by her parents in the midst of poverty and then married off to a good-for-nothing man who treats her unfairly, till she decides to take a stand and change the course of her life.
