All life on Earth is forecast to die.

The period of humanity's response, to unify and emigrate, is known simply as 'the Egression'.

Lives of the Egression tells the stories of the people during the Egression: the stories of the simple and ordinary, as well as the powerful, complicated and extraordinary - from the otherwise unimportant small-town boy from middle America whose discovery predicted the end of life on Earth; to the forsaken scientist who made space travel feasible; to a charismatic space pirate who outsmarted the Earth Astronavy; to the leaders of the struggles between the colonies and Earth; to the political manipulators who used the apocalyptic forecast for their own ends; and many more.

It was during the Egression that humanity faced its most profound challenge. The essence of the response to that challenge is found within the stories of those who lived through that turbulent period.
