When we come across another small group of survivors, they try to convince us to come with them to their ranch. But I know better than to trust anyone, no matter how intriguing they may be.

Brooding and silent, Cal decides we need his protection while we try to reunite with our families. He doesn't fool me. He's hoping that once we realize our families are gone, we'll have no choice but to return with him to Safe Haven Ranch. Unfortunately for him, I'm not naïve enough to believe there's any safe place left.

The world fell apart. My own personal world has been a mess for much longer. But the fall of society makes it that much harder to find a reason to continue fighting.

Originally a Christian prepping community, Safe Haven Ranch isn't immune to the sickness that killed so many. To keep the community functional, they decided to bring in outside survivors like me, as long as we agreed to follow their rules.
The folks here insist that this is a fresh start; a new beginning for all of us. But I'm not convinced. Or at least I wasn't. Not until I met Rylee. She might be tough, but even she doesn't realize just how dangerous this new world is. She may not want anything to do with me, but I'm determined to get her and her friends to safety, no matter the cost.

There might just be a little hope left in this world, after all.
