Moving to the city of Asheville in the mountains of western North Carolina, Amelia and Jack Flynn's top priority becomes the making of new friends. They quickly learn that real friendship requires getting involved in the lives of those they meet, and being there for them in good and bad times alike. The good times are easy for everyone -- whether sharing a love for singing, being talked into getting a puppy, or finding an exercise buddy -- and Amelia is all in.
But what cements their friendships are the bad times they share -- Amelia singing for Phil's mother's funeral, helping to get her friend Nora to the hospital in time, and supporting Phil's son Derek when he loses his mother Alicia unexpectedly. Despite the sizable difference in their ages, Amelia and Nora's friendship is strengthened when Nora asks Amelia to be her matron of honor, and Amelia offers to lend Nora her own wedding dress for the occasion. Sometimes there is only a fine line between friendship and family, however, as when Jack presents Nora with her bridal bouquet, and Amelia is honored to walk her down the aisle.
