The power of reason reigns supreme, or so claims the aspiring intellectual, Hobson. Hailing from the simple life of a small farming village, the self-proclaimed "Earl of Greisbury" spends the vast majority of his days indoors writing endless discourses, all in the hopes of gaining acceptance into the Feyklian Utilitarian Convention of Knowledge located in the distant nation of Pherylest. As a man of reason, he wouldn't have it any other way. When news reaches that Pherylestrian couriers would cease to pass through his village, however, he is thrown into panicked disarray, and comes to terms that he must make for the Capital. Prior to the dreaded departure of his home, he is met with an encounter so elusive that for the first time, his sense of reason fails him. And this, along with his misanthropic nature, leads him down a path of an unrealized deceit.
