Pharmacists Mutual
DeWitt Croxton
In 1898, a young Albert Falkenhainer "went west" to Titonka, Iowa, to open the town's first business - a drug store. Four years later, a fire destroyed Al Falkenhainer's drug store. Frustrated by loss settlement practices, Falkenhainer set out to build a better insurance company. What appeared to be a bleak end, is today a thriving, prosperous insurance company.
Located in Algona, Iowa it grew into one of the largest insurance companies in the United States that insures local pharmacies. It grew from an enterprise that initially covered Iowa, then the Midwest, and eventually the entire country. In 1992 the name was changed to Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company. This is the story of the people who built it and sustain it to this day.
